Roger Black Inc. turned to 13pt to help with a minor detail of their 1997 redesign of Reader’s Digest. The problem? Three fleurons were causing trouble, with their interlocking lines either smearing together or breaking apart at small sizes.

To help correct the problem, 13pt created an array of minor weight variations, for use at different sizes and under different printing conditions.
